レジスターカルトグラフィー: 体系機能的視点からみたテキスト類型とテキスト
分析

このワークショップは、コンテクストの規定要因(活動、インターラクタントと
テキストの持つ役割)にもとづいて、レジスター変化の全体、いわゆるテキスト
の類型を詳しく観察しようとするものである。ここでは、提出するテキスト類型
に研究や教授•学習の基盤となるテキストを位置づけ、それらが属するテキスト
タイプ(レジスター、ジャンル)にそって類型内のテキストの言語的特徴を識別
し、テキストをサンプリングしたり、(コンピュータツールを用いて)テキスト
のアーカイブを構築したりしながらテキストベースの言語分析を試みる。
ここで紹介する研究は、香港理工大学のポリシステミック研究グループが現在行
なっている研究のほんの一部で、幅広い分野における機関•団体においてテキス
トが 多様に現象する個別のコンテクストのもつ変数にしたがってレジスターの
類型の輪郭と詳細を精密に描き出すことを目的としている。
ワークショップでは、種々様々なコンテクストで機能する日本語や英語のテキス
トを通して意味がどのように異なるし方で具現されているのかを言語学的に探求
する。まず、テキストが機能するコンテクストによって言語がどのように変容す
るのか(言語の機能的な多様性)を観察し、テキストが具現化するコンテクスト
の性質、特に社会意義的過程にもとづくことで得られるテキストの8つの主要類
型(解説、探求、可能化、推薦、 実行、共有、 再現、 報告)とそれらの下位
類型を提示する(添付図を参照)。そして、それらの上位•下位類型を用いなが
ら、テキスト分析の方法を関連する言語体系、たとえば修辞構造や複文化のメカ
ニズム、観念的投射と対人的投射、過程型、ムードタイプや証拠性などの意味•
文法大系を活用することで例示し、談話分析や教育カリキュラムやシラバスの構
築などへの、テキストをベースとした言語研究の効果や影響などを論じる。
ワークショップの参加者は、社会意義的コンテクストにおける言語の性質や役割
をさらに詳しく理解できるようになるだけではなく、テキストを異なるソースか
ら収集し、記録保管し、そして分類かつ分析することでテキストをベースにした
言語研究を試みる、そのし方を体系機能言語学的に学習(研修)する。

(Abstract)

Registerial cartography: text typology and text analysis from an SFL
perspective

In this workshop, I will develop a comprehensive overview of registerial
variation — of a typology of texts — based on contextual parameters (
activity, interactants, role played by text); to locate texts that form
the basis of a research project and/or of teaching within this typology;
to identify linguistic features of texts in this typology according to
the text type (register, genre) they belong to; to undertake text-based
linguistic analysis, sampling texts and compiling text archives (using a
computational tool).
Research presented in this workshop is part of ongoing research from the
PolySystemic Research Group at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University
concerned with mapping out different types of register according to
their different contexts of use in a wide range of institutions, that is,
with what we call registerial cartography.
In the workshop I will explore how meanings are constituted differently
through Japanese, English and other language texts in operating in a
variety of contexts. I will then show how texts vary according to the
contexts they operate in and how they thus form different recurrent text
types belonging to different registers (functional varieties of language)
. I will present a typology of texts based on the nature of the context
they operate in in the form of the typology of eight primary socio-
semiotic processes (expounding, exploring, enabling, doing, sharing,
recreating, and reporting) and their subtypes (see diagram attached),
and use this typology throughout the workshop as I introduce different
techniques in text analysis using a number of semantic and grammatical
systems such as rhetorical organization, clause complexing, ideational
and interpersonal projection, process type, mood type and evidentiality,
and discuss the implications, for example, for discourse analysis and
the development of curricula and syllabi in language teaching.
Participants in this workshop will gain a greater understanding of the
nature and role of language in a number of socio-semiotic contexts, and
they will also acquire skills in text-based linguistic analysis,
learning how to do research using texts from different sources —
collecting, archiving, classifying and analysing them in systemic
functionally.

Topics will be:
- Description of situated texts in context in SFL
- Projection in the environment of context and text
- Projection in reporting text
- Reporting and recreating text and their difference in terms of the
nature of projection
- Recreating and exploring text: positioning of tenor
- Expounding text and rhetorical organization with reference to clause
complexing
- Rhetorical organization and coherence of text
- Multi-semiotic text types
